Matthew Barley
Matthew Barley is known internationally as
cellist, improviser, arranger, music animateur and
Artistic Director of Between The Notes. Having worked
in nearly 50 countries, he is as comfortable playing concertos with the BBC
Philharmonic or New Zealand Symphony as he is improvising with Amjad Ali Khan, Talvin Singh,
Julian Joseph or DJ Bee; jamming with teenagers in a school; recording Bach’s
solo cello suites or interpreting Shostakovich at the Wigmore
Hall. His musical world is about creating cultural and musical connections,
ignoring man-made boundaries that do not really exist, and bringing people
together.
