Håkan Björkman
Biography
Håkan
Björkman was born 1969 in Arboga.
He started
to play the trombone at the age of ten. After winning a “talent hunt” in 1983
Håkan came in contact with John Petersen, former principal trombone in the
royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 1986 Håkan
Björkman studied in Chicago for Frank Crisafulli and Vincent Chikowitz, both in
Chicago Symphony. Thereafter he joined the school of arts in Interlochen for
two months.
In 1989
Håkan started to study at the royal Academy of music in Stockholm. After four
years Håkan was the third trombonist ever to join the solo diploma (after
Christian Lindberg and Jonas Bylund). His teacher was Sven-Erik Eriksson.
In 1992
Håkan got his first job (principal trombone) in Gävle Symphony, which he did
not take due to his eager to further studies.
In 1995
Håkan made his diploma performance with the RPO in Stockholm. This was rewarded
with jeton. Håkan Björkman worked meanwhile his diploma studies in the
Stockholm Symphonic Wind Orchestra. He did Launy Gröndahl´s trombone concerto
on CD with them as well.
The job as
principal in the Royal Swedish Opera Orchestra was won in 1996, and since 1998
Håkan Björkman is also in the Chamber Orchestra of Europe as principal
trombone.
Håkan plays
regularly as a soloist and has performed with i.e. Sundsvall Chamber Orchestra,
Östgöta symphonic Winds, The Marine Band as well as other symphony orchestras.
In January 2005 Håkan is
going to play L Mozart and D Milhaud with Västerås Sinfonietta. Håkan Björkman
is also teaching the trombone at the Royal Academy of Music and “Dalarö
Folkhögskola”.
